Day 146 - The Beach
Jack, Peter, John and I spent the day cycling to Iona Beach. While the roads were mostly void of cars, there were quite a lot of cyclists that made it difficult for all of us to keep our distance.
Jack’s ambitious map showed us the way to Iona Beach (in red) and the return trip via UBC (in blue). We had already agreed he was going to be riding that blue route alone.
It was a pleasant day riding through quiet streets amidst wealthy estates.
When we got to Iona Beach, it was full of people! Cyclists and drivers shared the 2-lane road in and out of the area. I learned that a sewer pipe extends far into the ocean, dumping treated sewage from the nearby treatment plant. You can walk along the pipe for an interesting view (we didn’t). It made me think of Iona Beach as Vancouver’s bumhole, purely because of the sewer pipe.
We stuck around for a bit, before heading back home. Peter did some stretches and eventually had to catch a train home. His mountain bike just wasn’t built for long-distance road cycling.
