Day 3 - Let me work
I woke up late. The previous morning, I woke up early— and then fell back to sleep. This time, I just woke up later than I used to at home. It’s like pushing a vending machine over: it takes a few tries to knock it back and forth.
I stepped outside to rain. I hadn’t met Raincouver before today, but I see what they mean. It’s a light drizzle that’s more irritating than harmful. Although combined with the fallen Autumn leaves makes for a slushy ride on the bike.
I headed to Brighouse to receive a Social Insurance Number (SIN), (similar to our Tax File Number), which allows me to work. I spent 20 minutes total inside the ageing government building.
The final piece I needed was a bank account. I made an appointment for tomorrow to see a banker about setting up a bank account.
But what to do between now and working? I had looked around my area for a gym, but they all seem to offer either personal training or bootcamp-esque classes. The closest gym was the community centre in Steveston, but it only had resistance and cardio machines. What I wanted was an asshole gym, complete with squat racks, weightlifting platforms and grunting try-hards.
One gym that hit my radar was the Richmond Oval Centre, some 8 km away. It had basketball/volleyball courts, 2 ice rinks— but most importantly, a gym with all the fixin’s.
