Finders Keepers

The Finders Keepers market is an annual marketplace for independent creators & designers to showcase & sell their stuff. Looking a bit like a physical Etsy, stalls sell anything from leather wallets, cool key chains, ethical jewellery, candles, blankets, and more. There’s a bar selling drinks, cafes selling coffee, and food trucks serving the hungry all day. Meanwhile, music is being pumped out, either by bands or DJs in the centre stage.

Nika was working at a stall today for a woman who makes jewellery from recycled wine & plastic bottles, as well as hand-made clothing for women.  Nika had worked the stall on Friday night too, and was given a top to wear, like a uniform. She wore the top to the markets today, forgetting that she would need to return the top at the end of her shift. I came to the Finders Keepers market thinking there’d be something there I’d like to get, but to also deliver a blouse for Nika.

This was a bit of a surprise— a stall was accepting bitcoin as payment.

The Finders Keepers market was held at The Cutaway in Barangaroo this year in Sydney— a welcome change from Carriageworks in Redfern. While Carriageworks is only a short walk away from home, the venue is stuffy, struggling to circulate air amongst the crowds of people.

I stepped outside of the Cutaway & joined the weekend strangers in enjoying the view. These two friends were enjoying (what looked like) small bottles of wine from their bag.
