Packing for Western Australia

I leave for Perth at 19:55 this evening, flight QF583, where I'll be meeting with Vivian & Frank to road-trip along the west coast of Australia.

Most of the trip will be spent sight-seeing & swimming on the coast, with three nights for camping. We'll spend the first day at Rottnest Island, exploring & getting the obligatory selfie with a quokka. Then we'll hit the road, travelling north to see The Pinnacles, Murchison River Gorge, Monkey Mia, snorkel at Shark Bay, visiting Shell Beach, checking out Carnarvon Banana Plantation, chilling at Coral Bay, (hopefully) scuba diving at Ningaloo Reef, before spending all of Sunday, 31st December driving straight back to Perth.

The trip will only be for seven days, so I've endeavoured to pack as light as possible. The test: Can I survive a week with three changes of underwear? Probably the bigger test is: Can I survive a week in a car with an engaged couple?

Camping & cooking gear, camera & electronics, clothes, toiletries, and EDC.

It's forecast to be searing hot where we're going. I've only packed the following clothes:

  • Trousers;
  • Shorts;
  • Boardshorts;
  • x2 linen shirts;
  • x2 white tees;
  • x3 boxer briefs;
  • x2 socks;
  • Sneakers; and
  • Flip flops.

Plan is to alternate between clothes & do laundry in the evenings, particularly when we're camping & I can hang stuff outside to dry.

Everything all packed, with the clothes I'll be wearing (left), a large duffle bag & backpack to check-in & carry aboard the plane (centre), and the stuff I decided to ditch because I didn't think I'd ultimately need it: tablet & camera case (right).

I return to Sydney at 6:05 on Monday, 1st January 2018 aboard flight VA570.
