Quokka Hunting at Rottnest Island

I met Viv & Frank at the lobby of the YHA Perth at 7:57. We headed straight for Fremantle where we waited to board a 9:30 ferry to Rottnest Island.

Home to the Quokka, we headed to Rottnest Island hoping to capture a selfie with the photogenic marsupial.

We arrived to chaos amongst with people getting off our ferry, cyclists whizzing by on hired bikes, and families & groups struggling to stay together. We headed to a bike hire centre where we were met with more craziness.

We grabbed a helmet & bike each (AUD$30) & headed around the island.

The beaches were beautiful, each one made of fine, white sand stroked with calm, clear waters.

We stopped by a beach & explores the rocky edge.

We found a friendly crowd of quokkas gathered together being photographed by other tourists. We took our chance for a selfie!

We spent more time exploring the island, before finally making the full circuit (~8km) back to the main town for lunch.

We snorkeled at two beaches, trying to hunt down the rays that we saw earlier. We finally saw a couple of them on the second beach we visited.

We took a 18:25 ferry back to Fremantle & checked in at the Prison YHA there. Dinner was tomato muscles, veal schnitzel, spaghetti & a burger at Benny’s Bar & Cafe. We definitely ate more than we should, but we indulged knowing that the next three nights we’re going to be bare, camping food.

We retired to bed by 22:00.
