Brunches with and the Old & New
I met Andy in Darlinghurst, near the Airbnb he was staying at. He was in town to see Sia perform live in one of the few concerts she had in Australia.

I’ve known Andy for 3 years now. In the time we had this morning, he shared with me the best description I’ve ever heard of him, given by someone who was commenting about his lifestyle. It was that: “you live in a state of faux poverty”. And from the outside, it’s true! Before his milk-crate bed frame, it was previously made of cardboard. He earns loads & loads of money as a pharmacist, but lives & chooses styles that invoke a frugal lifestyle. Andy said the same of me, but that my approach is minimally frugal, rather than impoverished frugality.

I’d been watching his YouTube channel for about 2 years now. He reviewed the technical clothing from niche, online stores that I’d often eye & only sometimes buy. After noticing from his Instagram posts that he had relocated to Sydney, I connected with him & organised a catch-up over brunch.

This is Dean. He’s lived an interesting decade & it’s always fun meeting new people that have their own story to tell. He maintains his own channel on YouTube, reviewing clothes & travel products. He started a Kickstarter campaign for a bag he wanted to create. And by going on holidays, he actively promotes lightweight travelling.
