Day 1 - Saying hello
The flight was a blur. A mix of barefoot passengers and crying babies. I watched The Martian again, starring Matt Damon. I watched it on the flight to Dubai, too. What I like about it is that the whole movie is about one guy solving problems so that he can survive. Not unlike Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock, but with less plot holes and more character/s.
I landed and as I walked off the plane, I realised I could probably do with more layers on. It was a stark contrast to Sydney, which was in the midst of wild bushfires when I left.
After receiving my visa at the Immigration Office, I waited in the arrival lobby.
Tita Marie and Tito Joel arrived soon after. They drove me to their home, where I’ll be staying for a while until I settle in. They gave me a quick tour of the house and showed me to my bedroom. I did what Gabe suggested— I unpacked all my gear: coats onto hangers, clothes into drawers, and technology on the desk.
My 20 minute midday nap turned into a 4 hour coma. When I awoke, I quickly got dressed and met John at a Mexican place in Waterfront for an early dinner. We also spoke more about nothing. He got a new haircut, new jacket, and a new job (since I last saw him).
I wasn’t expecting much on my first day in Vancouver, but John did help me achieve one thing on my to-do list: get an AUS to US socket adapter.
I stopped by the local grocery store on the way home to grab some snackity snacks, then went home to bed.
