Day 365 - The Canada anniversary
Today marked my 1 year in Canada.
I had my doubts about reaching this milestone, because this isn’t the first time I’ve tried living in a new country.
In 2015 I moved my life to London. And while I had the best sabbatical across Europe, I failed to secure a career-job and create a sustainable life there. I returned to Sydney and resumed life.
So 4 years later when I did it again in Vancouver, understandably I had something to prove to myself. Reflecting back at my year here, I’m proud of the experiences I’ve had and accomplishments made (in no particular order):
Moved to a new city and country without a job;
Got a career-job as a UX designer, a role I’ve been working on the past 7 years to get;
Visited Tulum, Mexico and sparked my love for tacos;
Saw the Northern Lights in the Yukon;
Endured lockdowns, grocery shortages and working from home during a global pandemic;
Hiked and camped some of British Columbia’s prettiest forests and lakes;
Found a house and made a home;
Found friends and made a family.
John and I celebrated by having dinner at Miku, a Japanese restaurant that Cat first introduced Brendan and I to when we first visited Vancouver. I ate most of the sushi platter before we had the presence of mind to take a photo, but at least I saved the best for last.
