A Look at a Week

Monday

Tram was free for dinner, so we had some Japanese after her pole-dancing class.

I first met Tram at UTS, while I was still studying. She was studying Civil Engineering, and while we weren’t doing the same course, our mutual friends introduced us. Our love of Seinfeld, The Simpsons & The Office (US) brought us together.

Tuesday

This is the Do Dee Meekeow (small), with wonton & bbq pork. The book I’m reading is called “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg.

We had a team meeting with the London & Hong Kong offices on Tuesday night. Because of the time differences, we had to pick the best time where the teams could see each other. London had to be on-screen at 7:00 am & Sydney had to stay back from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It was a struggle for everyone. At 5:00 pm, I grabbed a quick dinner at Do Dee Paidang & read my book, then darted back to the office to make the team meeting.

Wednesday

It’s Valentines Day & I spent the evening with Tida at Bondi Beach & had dinner with her & her friend at the RSL club. Bondi is definitely another world— full of fitness creatures, tourists & hippies crowding around a drum circle. Happy Valentines Day.

Friday

Todd’s in the team dedicated to this project. This is us in a taxi on our way to the airport.

We passed Etihad Stadium coming back to Sydney. The weather in Melbourne was spectacularly pleasant.

Northern Indian Cuisine, 131 Oxford St, Darlinghurst. Delicious Indian food for a bargain price. My dish & drink was under $15, and I couldn’t even finish it all (butter chicken, some mushroom curry, and rice).

Friday was spent in Melbourne testing a solution concept with a CBA client of ours at our 727 Collins St office. I finished the day with Viv & Frank having a mountain of Indian food on Oxford St.

Saturday

Omafiets in Redfern is a large bike store with heaps of styles of bikes, friendly staff & a very relaxed vibe.

I used the gift card I redeemed from buying my full-frame camera (back in Christmas) to get a front-rack for my TokyoBike bike. The wide surface area & strap means I can bring a duffle bag or briefcase to work with me & I won’t need to carry it on my back. It’s part of my goal of carrying more items on my bike than on my person while riding, for a more comfortable (and less sweaty) commute. I bought a smaller briefcase-style bag that can be mounted to my Brompton just so that I can carry laptops & office stuff without needing to use my gigantic touring bag.

While I was at it I bought a new bell, which was much louder than my current bell (which could only be described as having an impotent pitch). And they even tightened my brakes for me! It felt like a whole new bike by the time I left the store.

Finally, Tida & her housemates were having a garage sale. I stopped by her place & hung out for a bit. Unfortunately there was nothing there that I could’ve bought. The UTS Hatchery crew was there & I got to briefly catch up with Jocelyn & James.

The best part of my week is the people around me. They’re all so different & it always helps that everyone has qualities worth admiring.

Viv & Frank are leaving Sydney in early April. It’ll be a huge loss to see them go, but as I’ve learnt by now— nobody stays in your life forever. Enjoy the people while they’re still there.
